From an Award-Winning Museum to a Luxury Resort

The story of Calizz began with Nandan Kudchadkar's fascination with collecting. Beginning at the age of 14, he assembled an extraordinary collection of antiques, furniture, architectural elements and historical objects reflecting Goa's rich cultural heritage.
His vision evolved into a museum featuring individually themed rooms, recognised with the National Tourism Award for Most Innovative Tourism Project in 2006-07.
Visitors frequently wondered whether they could stay within these remarkable spaces rather than merely admire them.
An idea first conceived in 1997 eventually became reality when Calizz opened to guests on 14 December 2025, transforming the museum into a living heritage experience.
Today, guests can inhabit rooms surrounded by the art, objects and stories collected over decades.

Preserving Goa's Indo-Portuguese Architectural Heritage

Calizz is a celebration of Goa's architectural past, bringing together Portuguese influences, traditional Goan craftsmanship and carefully preserved historical features.
Oyster-shell windows, antique door frames, centuries-old mud construction and an old chapel reflect the property's architectural heritage. Its historic elements coexist with thoughtfully restored interiors and repurposed furnishings.
White and earthy brown dominate the architectural palette, recalling the region's Portuguese-era buildings, traditional laterite and aged timber.
The resort is designed like an intimate village, with individual structures, shaded pathways, landscaped courtyards and secluded spaces.
An expansive banyan tree anchors the courtyard, complemented by three historic French Caryatid fountains. The Gothic Garden echoes the natural forms of banyan roots, while a hanging tulsi installation celebrates Indian tradition.
Throughout Calizz, original artefacts and unusual discoveries, including vintage Air India chairs retaining their serial numbers, reveal the stories behind the collection.

Calizz introduces a distinctive approach to luxury hospitality through a question: why has the bedroom remained one of the least explored elements of the hotel experience?
Nandan Kudchadkar believed that the bed deserved to become the starting point of hospitality design. His philosophy follows a simple sequence:

Rather than creating standard hotel rooms, Calizz imagines each bedroom around its bed, developing the atmosphere, design and guest experience from that central idea.

Behind each of Calizz's 16 doors lies a different world.
Every suite celebrates a distinct theme inspired by art, history, mythology, nature, literature, exploration or romance.
The Shahi Ishq Suite evokes royal grandeur, while Opulent Avian celebrates birds and nature. Author's Aphrodisiacs explores literature, Confessions of a Photographer draws from visual storytelling, and the Room of Reflections creates an intriguing experience through mirrors.
The Kama Shastra House, with its Sun and Moon bedrooms, draws inspiration from ancient Indian philosophies of love and intimacy.
The beds are equally extraordinary. Designs include swan-inspired and chariot-shaped beds, sculptural creations incorporating unusual materials, a bed associated with the Nizam of Hyderabad and another inspired by an aircraft's first-class sleeping compartment.
Artistic interpretations of Gustav Klimt's works appear alongside antique furnishings and historic objects.
